Native plantings
Ever notice how there's a lot of GRASS around campus? Though it's certainly pretty and more or less indispensable for the soccer field, grass has a heavy ecological footprint (lots of diesel for mowing, plus it gives very little to local wildlife). Plus there are a lot of places around campus where grass is, really, not that necessary, given of course that we can find a low-maintenance alternative.
That's why CERES is working with campus facilities to identify easy-to-maintain native plants that we can use to replace grass, cut down on mowing, and contribute to local biodiversity and student education.
