Laird Hall Zero-Waste Initiative
"Imagine there was no place to put your
garbage. Imagine we all threw our waste wherever we wanted, whenever we wanted.
Imagine there were no services to take care of waste disposal.
Now imagine our planet. Imagine our campus and the effects of this disaster. Of course there are facilities on campus that provide these services, and so we just throw our waste products in the trash container, and we are done. But are we done?"... During our 2014 Fall Waste Audit of Laird Hall, we found that 78% of Laird Hall Waste is comprised of compostable and recyclable materials. This percentage is staggering. In an effort to make a difference, CERES applied for funding from the Sustainability Projects Fund McGill to fund a new and innovative project to reduce this percentage... Within 2 months our application was APPROVED! Now with the help of the Laird Hall Housing Committee, Laird Hall Management, John Abbott College, the McGill Sustainability Office, The Sustainability Projects Fund, Macdonald Campus Student Society, Laird Hall Residents, Janitors, and Facilities & Operations & Gorilla Compost, Laird Hall is embarking on a new Zero-Waste chapter...
